The Power of Career Coaching
Jan 23, 2024
Building a career in tech can feel like a solo climb. It does not have to be. If you have ever wondered what a career coach actually does, or whether it is worth it, here is a straight answer from someone who sits on the hiring side.
What career coaching actually is
It is a working partnership aimed at a specific outcome: the promotion, the pivot into a new field, the next role, or just performing better where you are. A good coach is not there to hand you answers. They help you see your situation clearly, name what is in the way, and build a plan to move. The question shifts from "what should I do?" to "what do I actually want, and how do I get there?"
Why Careersy is different
I founded Careersy after more than a decade recruiting tech professionals, on agency desks and inside large tech companies, across the Australian and New Zealand market. So the advice you get is not generic career-coach theory. It is the recruiter's side of the table: what actually gets someone shortlisted, what makes a hiring manager say yes, and how this specific market works.
How I help
- Insight and honest feedback. A clear read on where you are and what is holding you back, specific to your situation and your industry.
- Accountability. Setting a goal is easy. Hitting it is the hard part. I keep you moving between sessions.
- The practical pieces. Interview preparation, resume and LinkedIn, salary negotiation, the path to your next promotion, and breaking into tech if you are coming from outside it.
What changes
The people I work with tend to leave with more than a tactic. They manage the stress of a search better. They get clearer on their own strengths and what they actually want, which makes the big decisions easier. And at the crossroads moments, a pivot, a redundancy, a first move into tech, they have someone who has seen the inside of the process in their corner.
How the sessions work
Each one is focused. We define the goal, get clear on why it matters to you, find the real obstacle, surface a new angle or two, and leave with a concrete plan and a check-in. Private, structured, and grounded in actual recruitment experience rather than motivational filler.
Start with a conversation
